This is a magical corner of Colombia where the placid, icy landscape bewitch travelers and wanderers who slip through its valleys, moraines and glaciers. Visit the valley of the Lagunillas, ascend the Sugarloaf Peak and Devil's Pulpit glacier. We will stay at the only remaining refuge within the park: SISUMA, which offers comfortable facilities with heater and hot water. Enjoy an experience that can only be lived at the high mountains of the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy in COLOMBIA.

Itinerary A:

(Duration 4 days, 3 nights)

DAY 1.

Meeting at 6:00 pm at the bus terminal in Bogotá, red module.

10-hour journey to Cocuy.

DAY 2.

Breakfast Cocuyano. (Rib soup and hot chocolate)

Town tour of Cocuy, repeatedly declared the most beautiful town of Colombia.

Moving from the Municipality of Cocuy to PNN Cocuy

Arrival to the Cave.

Acclimatization hike to the cabin and displacement Sisuma.

Lunch (Special mountain sandwiches, power bars and liquids). Move to the

Installation on Sisuma Shack, the only refuge located within the Sierra Nevada National Park, Güicán and Cocuy

Dinner: Chicken stir fry with vegetables, hot or cold drink.

DAY 3.

Breakfast: Agua de panela, cheese and arepas.

Ascent to the edge of the glacier or the top of Sugarloaf Peak (pico Pan de Azucar) at 5200 m.

Lunch. (Special sandwiches, power bars and drinks)

Descend to the valley Lagunillas.

Return to the municipality of Cocuy.

Dinner:Pasta Bolognese. Hot or cold drink.

Overnight at Hotel Muñoz, Cocuy Township.

DAY 4.

American breakfast.

Return to Bogota

6 pm Arrive Bogota.

Around the Sierra

Difficulty Level: High

Trekking in Sierra Nevada Cocuy. We begin from the northern part of the Sierra and start our expedition in the Cabins of Kanwara, from where we walk towards the eastern part of the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy, Güicán and Chita. We pass by several glacier valleys and lakes making camps in different places on the route. It will be a 6 day expedition around the mountain.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE JOURNEY

This is a high mountain hikes therefore good physical condition is necessary, as well as good mountain experience and altitude acclimatization. We will start from 3200m. and we will reach the 4700 meters. The difficulty is high and the tours last from 3 to 8 hours depending on the day's itinerary. Bring appropriate clothing for mountain (preferably waterproof jacket and trousers in Gore Tex fibers, hat, hiking boots), sunscreen for skin and lips, water bottle, camera optional, personal documents.

SIERRA NEVADA DEL COCUY: Snowy Peaks

Cerros de la Plaza (5000 msnm), Pan de Azúcar (5200 msnm) and Ritacuba Blanco (5300 msnm)

This is a magical corner of Colombia where the placid, icy landscape bewitch travelers and wanderers who slip through its valleys, moraines and glaciers. We wil visit the most beautiful lagoon in Colombia: Laguna de la Plaza, where we'll camp to prepare for our first ascent, the Hlls of de la Plaza. Afterwards we will keepascending to the Sugarloaf Peak (Pan de Azucar) and Devil's Pulpit glacier (Púlpito del Diablo). We will take a recovering break at the placid and peaceful town of Cocoy. Finally, we will take on our final ascent in the highest peak of the Sierra Nevada: El Ritacuba Blanco.
